More couples are choosing smaller weddings, and with that comes more freedom, whether that relates to the fashion, or the photography, or even just how a day feels. In this shoot, which highlights the power of putting a twist on tradition, a team of respected industry creatives creates a cool, contemporary setting, somewhere between an engagement and an elopement. A bridal look from Brisbane label Bulley Bulley offers a unique edge, while florals by Elyora are carried through from the table to the bride's accessories. Makeup was by Leah Medutis and images were by Florido Weddings, all shot at Room for More Studio. Here, stylist Danielle Hutton from Til Death Events talks us through the creative concept, the case for spending intentionally, and the shift toward less performative weddings.

Tell me about the inspiration behind this shoot? What compelled you to bring the idea to life?

We essentially wanted to create a shoot where the lines were blurred between an elopement or an engagement shoot. One main objective was to push the boundaries with fashion and play around with the idea of stepping away completely from a traditional bridal look. As the concept developed, we found ways to create a cohesive flow with smaller styling elements as well. This included things such as ribbon thread through some of the bread which ties into our models first outfit through to tiny flowers in her hair, on her bag and amongst the table styling.

What does it capture about modern weddings?

While extravagant large scale weddings have made a huge come back, we're also seeing a rise in micro and elopement style events which focus on intimacy and family. The pressure to perform in front of 100 guests is no longer an obligation with couples opting for smaller weddings which feel reflective of their lifestyles. This also means more freedom with fashion, photography styles and styling.

What, as vendors, do you wish couples did more of when it came to the creative concept for their weddings?

Not everyone is planning a lavish wedding anymore, and that's simply the reality for a lot of couples. With the rising cost of living, people are becoming much more intentional about where they choose to spend their money. We wanted to show that beautiful, design-led weddings and elopements don't have to come with an enormous budget. It's less about spending more on everything, and more about investing in the elements that matter most to you. With thoughtful choices and the right creative team, you can create something that feels incredibly elevated, personal and timeless without needing to spend a fortune.

What next big trends are you noticing in the wedding space?

Authenticity and less performative style weddings. We've reached the point in the wedding industry that we can no longer outdo each other as weddings have become such a huge production. I'm predicting couples will begin to step away from this by honing in on feeling and authenticity through food and music.

Anything else you want to mention about this shoot?

We were really excited to work with a local fashion label on this shoot. Having a label based in Brisbane provide our bride attire felt really special and reflective of what living in a city like Brisbane is all about.
