The start of Spring in Sydney often brings with it days that give a prelude to summer. Warm, languid sprawling afternoons where cloudless blue skies soften into pastel sunsets and convivial evenings. It was on such a day, last week, that we gathered at Potts Point's newest wine bar, Paradise — another from the renowned hospitality brothers behind Fratelli Paradiso and 10 William St — to celebrate the launch of our first issue.
Calling on the expertise of Laice and Doug Bollen (Place of LB), who dreamt up a tea-light-lined VEIL collage and finished the facade of Paradise with lemon-yellow drapery, we set the tone for an evening of celebration. Then, along with libations like martinis, negronis and palomas, as well as a line-up of tasty natural wines (the kind for which Paradise has quickly become known) we toasted to the start of an exciting journey. Special thanks to Gio and his team at Paradise for the exceptional food and hospitality. And to Emma Gott and her team for supporting us in bringing this event together.
VEIL began as a question of how to tell wedding stories differently. With this platform, we want to cut to the heart of what connects us, what makes us human. And really, it's just love. And there was a lot of love in the room at Paradise on that sun-drenched Wednesday afternoon. Because beyond the weddings, VEIL is about the stories that anchor them and the people who bring them to life. Asking ‘why’ people are getting married, rather than ‘how’ is the lens through which we will filter everything at VEIL, and this is only just the beginning.
